The Mastery of Love

by Don Miguel Ruiz

A Toltec is an artist of Love, an artist of the Spirit, someone who is creating every moment, every second, the most beautiful art – the Art of Dreaming.

Life is nothing but a dream, and if we are artists, then we can create our life with Love, and our dream becomes a masterpiece of art.

Introduction

The Master says to me, “Yes, I am here, but I was here before. I was hungry, and you fulfilled my need for food. I was thirsty, and you gave me the wine. I was cold, and you covered me with clothes. Whatever you do for others, you do for me.”

Chapter 1

I have the power to create. My power is so strong that whatever I believe comes true.

I create myself, and I am what I believe about myself. I become a master of what I practice.

I am recovering from the diseases of fear and emotional woundedness and am becoming my own loving self.

The real me is pure love; I am life, I am love.

Like a child, I live in the moment; I am not ashamed of my past, and I am not worried about my future. I express what I feel and am not afraid to love.

Chapter 2

My body’s frequency is tuned to love and to the exploration and enjoyment of life.

I now understand that my parents were trying to protect and domesticate me; they acted in love and did the best they could in raising me.

I release the poison received from people I think have treated me unfairly. I release judgments against others and choose peace.

I release judgments against myself and dismiss the Parasite of beliefs that try to make me suffer. My guilt is dissolved and my emotional body is healed.

Life brings to me what I need. I no longer need guilt, blame and suffering, but choose to accept life’s blessings now.

Chapter 3

In my relationships I realize that I am not responsible for the happiness of others, not are they responsible for mine. I am happy because of the loving coming out of me; I am responsible for my own happiness.

From Bridge Across Forever, by Richard Bach:

How do you know when you have met your soulmate? (asked of Richard’s wife, Leslie Parrish). Her reply:

“… Four years later we got to know each other and all at once we were best friends. The more I knew him the more I admired him, the more I thought what a truly wonderful person he is!

“That’s a key. Look for a love affair that gets better with time, admiration brightening, trust that grows through storms.

“With this one man I saw that intense intimacy and joy were possible for me. I used to think those were my own special needs, my personal signs of a soulmate. Now I think they may be everyone’s, but that we despair of finding them, we try to settle for less. How dare we ask for intimacy and joy when a lukewarm lover and mild happiness are the best we can find.

“Yet in our hearts we know that lukewarm will turn cold; mild happiness will become a kind of nameless sadness, nagging questions: Is this the love of my life; is this all there is; is this why I’m here? In our hearts we know there must be more, and we long for the one we never found.

“So often half a couple is trying to go up, the other half is dragging down. One walks forward, the other makes sure that for every two steps ahead they take three steps back. Better to learn happiness alone, I thought, love my friends and my cat, better wait for a soulmate who never comes that to  make that dull compromise.

“A soulmate is someone who has locks that fit our keys, and keys to fit our locks. When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for who we are and not for who we’re pretending to be. Each unveils the best part of the other. No matter what else goes wrong around us, with that one person we’re safe in our own paradise. Our soulmate is someone who shares our deepest longings, our sense of direction. When we’re two balloons, and together our direction is up, chances are we’ve found the right person. Our soulmate is the one who makes life come to life.”

Chapter 4

My life is my own dream, completely different from anyone else’s. I respect the dreams of others.

I live my life in unconditional love. I do what I do out of love and choice, not out of obligation. I have no expectations of others and respect their choices. I have compassion, not pity for those who are struggling. I am happy, kind and generous.

I love others the way they are, and they are free to be the way they are.

I am responsible for my choices and my half of each of my relationships - me. I see myself and my partner in a relationship as a team.

I am clear in my communications with others.

My happiness is built on the love coming out of me. My love in action produces happiness. To master love I practice loving.

Chapter 5

When making choices in relationships, I choose to be with people who are going the same direction I am, who are compatible with my views and values – emotionally, physically, economically and spiritually.

The right man/woman for me is the one I love just the way he/she is.

I let go of the past and give my 100% best to my relationship.

I make new agreements with my partner based on love, respect and communication. I can be with my partner with no guilt or blame, anger or sadness; I am completely open, only to share, serve, and give love.

Chapter 6

I am generous and share what I have and what I am with others. I share my love without condition.

My heart is like a magical kitchen. I open my heart and I already have all the love I need.

I love and accept myself unconditionally; I am already complete.

I enter relationships to share my love, enjoy life and have fun. I want the best for those I love.

I am generous with my love and generosity opens all doors.

Chapter 7

Every relationship in my life can be healed and every relationship can be wonderful, but it always begins with me. I may not be able to control what goes on around me, but I can control my own reactions.

I am responsible for the consequences of whatever I do, think, say and feel. I control my own dream by the choices I make.

I can escape the Dream of Fear that exists in my world by awakening and changing my dream. I am a dream master. I create a new dream where everything is possible.

I experience my world without passing judgment and without taking personally what happens to me.

To grow in spirit and dream a new dream, I change my normal reactions to non-judgment, I change my routine, and I take risks and make different choices.

I am aware of and responsible for my own life.

My mission in life is to be happy – to be an expression of the all-loving, all-powerful and creative God.

I accept and love myself just the way I am and I can move forward from this point.

Chapter 8

I let go of the urge to make everything right or wrong, good or bad. I accept life the way it is. I let go of my beliefs about the way people should be.

I remember that I am not my body, I am not my mind, I am not my dream. I am a force that makes it possible for my body to live and my mind to dream. I am part of the force called Life.

Chapter 9

Everything I need is within myself.

As a hunter, I hunt for reactions I have in order to change them one at a time. I desire to be free of the Dream of Fear.

I am responsible for my half of the relationship; I allow my partner to deal with his/her own personal dream.

Chapter 10

I love the cells in my body and thank them for all they do for me. I honor and accept by body as it is.

Everything that exists is beautiful, because it is of God. I already have all the beauty I need.

I am whatever I believe I am. I believe I am beautiful and I enjoy it. I am the dreamer and I control my own dream; my dream becomes a masterpiece of art.

I treat others with the same love, honor, respect and gratitude I use with myself. I honor the God inside of each person.

I have eyes of love, and see love wherever I go. God is everywhere; life is everywhere.

Chapter 11

To heal my emotional wounds, I open them and clean them out with truth and forgiveness; then they heal.

I tell myself the truth, releasing any poison given to me by others.

I create my own dream of heaven, letting go of any lies told to me by me or by others. What is untrue disappears like smoke.

I have the choice of what I want to believe and how I live my life. I am always free to make new choices.

Forgiveness is for my own mental healing; it is an act of self-love.

I ask forgiveness of those I have hurt. I forgive others by knowing that whatever they did, it had nothing to do with me. I see these people with compassion.

I accept that unconditional love is the medicine that accelerates the process of healing.

I no longer reject myself or others; I no longer carry shame and guilt. I accept myself just as I am and I accept others just as they are.

I cure the disease of my mind with truth, forgiveness and self-love. I have a new dream of the planet – heaven on earth.

Chapter 12

God within me expresses as me and wants to be happy.

Because heaven and hell exist in my mind, I can choose to be in heaven now. When my body dies, my mind can continue to be in heaven.

Everything that exists is perfect. I am perfect just the way I am.

When I become wise I no longer pretend to be what I am not. I completely accept myself; I respect my body, my mind and my soul.
I release the resistance I have had and give up suffering.

I release all beliefs and judgments that destroy my peace and become what I really am - a perfect child of God. I find my emotional wounds, poisons and boundaries are gone.

My heart is an expression of Spirit, Love, and Life. My heart opens another heart and I find true love. What makes me happy is the love coming out of me.

I searched for God and found God within me. God lives within me as Life. My mind is a living temple where God lives.

Everything is a manifestation of God. Wherever I go, there I am, waiting for myself.

Whatever I believe determines my life. I release all beliefs and judgments that destroy my peace and become what I really am - a perfect child of God.
