Affirmations for The Gift of Change

By Marianne Williamson

Introduction

I am challenged in troubled times to recreate my life. To the extent that I transform my own life, I change the world.

I am spirit – thus I am more than the world.

I am delivered by love from the fear that grips the world. The darkness is an invitation to light, calling forth the spirit in me.

There is spiritual meaning in everything that happens to me. I decide who I become and I grow from my experience.

I am called toward more enlightened ways of seeing, living, thinking and being, becoming an agent in this monumental shift from a world of fear to a world of love. The time is now.

During this time of great change, I focus on the things that don’t change – that I am a child of God, at the center of divine purpose in the world.

I allow life to be what it wants to be and I let myself be who I was created to be. I am not in an end time, but in a new beginning. I am becoming a new kind of human, free from the limitations of ego and free to become the person I am capable of being.

Chapter One

I allow love’s power to change my life and change the world.

When I remember who I am, my problems will disappear. I remembering, I release fears presented to me by a fearful world, and see God’s truth revealed: that we are all love itself at our core.

I cross the bridge to a better world – from addictive mental patterns of fear and separation to enlightened perceptions of unity and love.

As light dispels the darkness, so love dispels fear. God’s guidance comes as spiritual illumination to bring light to mind and my perception.

I am drawn to the people and situations that will give me my next assignment. With every lesson I am challenged to go deeper, become wise and more loving.

I am committed to a loving and forgiving approach, all of the time. With every change I make from blaming to blessing, I pierce the veil of illusion that separates me from the world I want. I devote my life to the radical possibility that love casts out all fear.

I surrender myself to God’s plan; and when I do, I experience miracles.

Chapter Two

I live within the wholeness of my true self. I am whole when I am one with God.

Love, which created me, is what I am. I am an extension of the Mind of God, and my true nature is divine. I accept God’s gifts and allow them to be expressed through me.

Love is my spiritual reality, untarnished by anything that happens in the material world. In the presence of light, my darkness disappears.

Through prayer I work miracles in my life. I free my inner resource of compassion to transform myself and the world.

The Christ Mind is my salvation; I am reminded of who I am and am renewed. What I do to others I am doing to myself; I change my sense of who we all are, and am transformed.

I am the coolest person in the world because God creates only perfection. I recognize my inestimable value regardless of my mistakes, for which I ask forgiveness. I am God’s creation and in this moment I ask the universe to reflect back to me the greatness of God that is with me.

I support others in believing in themselves. I affirm the essential goodness in people, even when they make mistakes.

I practice kindness and start to become kind. I practice discipline and start to become disciplined. I practice forgiveness and start to become forgiving. I practice charity and start to become charitable. I practice gentleness and start to become gentle. I become gracious when I decide to be gracious. It is never too late to be what I really am.

Chapter Three

I am responsible for my own happiness. I make a decision to be happy and attract more happiness into my life. The greatest gift God gave me is the capacity to change my mind.

I take a moment and focus on how blessed and grateful I am for the parts of my life that are good. I invite the spirit of God to overshadow my thoughts, to lift them up to divine right order, to deliver me from the grip of ego and to turn me into what He would have me be.

My real me is an expanded self – connected to God and to other people. I have inner peace when I feel complete within myself – aware of this connection.

The love that I seek comes easily to me when I extend love to others.

My thoughts and actions are guided by God, now and always. I walk a closer walk with God thoughts.

God helps me choose again when I have blocked my own way. To God, every moment is a new beginning. I can have in life whatever I am willing to be.

My mission is to be the love that is missing in a loveless world and thus I reclaim this darkened world for light.

In God I am infinitely abundant, in total good health, and in infinite love. I am powerful and capable of working miracles.

While I think I have many different problems, in reality I have only one – my separation from God. When I align my being with Truth, miracles happen. I address problems at the level of their cause – within me.

I am careful of my thoughts because all thought creates form on some level. My mind sets me up to fulfill my own expectations. I program my mind with new thoughts of positive expectations, love and forgiveness. What I proclaim to be true will be true for me. The meaning of anything is the meaning I attach to it.

The closed heart of another does not hurt me; rather, I pray for those who have wronged me and the pain I suffered turns to peace.

Through God’s love, I can and do change. My spirit is always seeking to rise up.

Chapter 4

Today I choose to leave the worries of the world behind and face my day with a peaceful state of mind.

When life is stormy, I retreat into the House of God. I remember that God’s power is unlimited.

Every change is a challenge to remember what is true. Love is the only absolute reality which never changes and never dies. Love is all that matters and love is all that lasts.

I put my burdens in the hands of God, ask for a miracle and thank him in advance for providing it. Through prayer, I am transformed.

I now attract the people and circumstances that provide me the means to effortlessly accomplish my task.

When I feel I have failed, the issue is who I become as a result. I can look at my experience another way, reframe my feelings and remember that God is always with me.

Dear God,

May the Holy Spirit overshadow my mind, and give me eyes to see.
May I perceive the love I know exists and overlook the rest.
May I rise above the darkness of the world and my mind be bathed in light.
May I be calm and comforted by Truth. Amen.

Every morning I remember to give praise and thanks.

Thank you, God, for my life today.
Thank you for my family and friends.

Thank you for my home.

Thank you for my many blessings.

Thank you for your healing power, now pouring forth upon me. I claim it now and pray for miracles.

Please bless this day, for me and everyone, Amen.

I take full responsibility for the mistakes I have made, atone for them, and try to make things right.

As my thinking is corrected, so is my world.

Chapter 5

I look for the part I play in causing my problems; when I realize what that is, I can change it.

I name my problem, surrender it to God and ask him to remove it. I say, “Dear God, I know I react this way; please change me.”

Ever-unfolding good is the natural order of the universe and I was created to enjoy it. I am programmed to develop a more magnificent life and I say “yes” to it.

I let go of all the fears I have gathered as I’ve walked the path of life. I open my heart so much that all my fears melt away.

I pray for help in becoming the person who handles situations with ease and grace. God transforms my issues.

God is not my judge but my healer. God delivers me from the hell my ego has built for me.

I admit the mistakes I have made, make amends where possible and ask God to remove my character defects; I open my heart to receive His daily comfort and allow Him to use me in bringing comfort to others.

God’s spirit reveals the truth to me when I let my ego step back and I accept His guidance. In a moment of quiet, the spirit enters and makes all things right and I surrender to the divinity that flows through me.

I am an empty space through which God’s love can flow; I am illumined and the light within shines through.

I say “yes” to God; my life changes not when I have new things, but when I have a new spirit.

In my oneness with others lies my oneness with God.

The greatest power God has given me is the power to change my thoughts. As I do, my world transforms.

Chapter 6

My subconscious mind is my servant, responding to my every command. I affirm what I want to have in my life.

I express my full potential, my magnificence; it is my responsibility.

If I want a miracle, I have to claim it. I attract my good to me and allow it in.

As I change my mind, others begin to change theirs.

Every stage of my life is perfect when I allow myself to really live in it. I bless the present moment.

I concentrate on the present, contributing and showing up for it as fully as I can. I release concerns for the future by living fully in the present.

I am in exactly the right place at exactly the right time. God’s plan for my life guides me.

I choose whether I will learn through joy or through pain.

I look for ultimate answers where they truly are: inside me.

Chapter 7

The movie of my life begins with the thoughts in my script. I take direction from the Holy Spirit, focusing on innocence rather than guilt.

I am willing to see the innocence of others and that determines the drama that unfolds in my life.

I realize that all people do the best they can with the skills and understanding they have at the time.

To make a bridge to a new life possible, I am willing to forgive.

In forgiving, I remember the love I experienced and let go of the rest of the illusion. I am free to go back to the light and reclaim my inner peace.

My mission as a miracle worker is to remain awake to the beauty in people even when they have forgotten it themselves. As God does, I desire to heal rather than punish.

I am here not to monitor the spiritual progress of others, but to address my own progress.

I release judgments I have of others.

I remember my own eternal perfection and that of others as well.

My mission is to become perfect here; one lesson after another, I grow closer to the expression of my divine potential.

I am a beloved child of God; other people’s projections of who I am are just that – their projections.

I surrender all thoughts of past guilt and let the Holy Instant shine forth in my awareness.

I release to God the places I seem to be blocked so that I might be healed; then my light might shine and God might use me for His purposes.

As I face my own weaknesses, I grow more compassionate toward others.

I can be happy only if I take responsibility for my own experiences. I ask how I contributed to this situation.

I shift my focus from guilt to innocence to change my world. I believe in the basic goodness of people even when their behavior does not reflect their goodness.

Love is a force that is more powerful than violence of any kind; I choose love.

Chapter 8

I am one with the unlimited God and I embody the glory of God. I am an idea in the mind of God and cannot be separate from Him.

Our spirits are not separate, but one. I give up my illusions of separateness, the source of all my pain, and find right-minded relationships with everyone.

God has sent us the Holy Spirit to reunite our hearts by correcting our thinking based on love.

The only acceptable life for me is within the realm of love.

God shows me the innocence in others to return my heart to love. I can understand others only when I love them.

In being trustworthy toward myself, I am trusting of others.

In all my relationships, my purpose is to serve God.

Dear God, I place my relationship with ____ in your hands. May my presence be a blessing in his/her life. May my thoughts toward him/her be those of innocence and love, and may his/her thoughts toward me be those of innocence and love. May all else be cast out. May our relationship be lifted to divine right order, and take the form that best serves your purposes. May all unfold, in this and all things, according to your will. Amen.

We are being healed together.

Week 2:
We are drawn to each other for teaching and learning; every encounter is a holy encounter when I use it to demonstrate love. My rough edges rub up against yours and we both smooth out.

I subconsciously attract the people I need in my life. I will continue to attract particular problems to me until I learn how to resolve them.

In prayer and meditation I release my relationship issues to God that they might be transformed.

I am whole as a I exhibit a deeper love for everyone, not just the special person in my life.

I allow others to be who they are. This is holy love.

I make agreements and share my feelings, but refrain from judgment and blame. I make every effort to show up for the relationship as authentically and honorably as I can. Silently I bless every person and situation, asking forgiveness and granting forgiveness.

Love is everywhere. My eyes are open to see it regardless of the package it comes in.

I let go of those who choose not to be close to me. I release them, bless them, feel my loss and release it to God.

Chapter 9

The resurrection uplifts my consciousness so that the effects of fear are canceled.

God’s love within me transcends darkness. With God in charge, I rise above the thoughts that keep me bound.

Crucifixion takes me into the darkness of the soul where I give up judgment, willfulness and hate. I feel a lightness return to my heart and know I have moved to another place.

With every scar, we become carriers of the universal wound as well as transmitters of a universal healing. We are led to others who have also overcome, and also to those inspired by us.

We are not defeated, but rather through adversity we give birth to our better selves.

The movement of the universe is always in the direction of love.

I am open to miracles, allowing God to lead the way.

A new world awaits us all, as our minds are healed by love.

Chapter 10

To change the world deeply I first must be changed by God. To surrender the world to Him, I first surrender myself.

God calls me to be His representative on earth. I choose to serve God by choosing the path toward God’s greatness within me. I let Spirit work through me.

I am here to be a teacher of God – to demonstrate love.

I stand in Truth through my words and my behavior and help create a wave of power to heal the world. I say YES to making the world a better place.

I move beyond judgment and blame and see forgiveness as my function. My goal is that God’s will be done.

I am directed in what I need to know when my heart is open. Through forgiveness, prayer and meditation I quiet my mind enough to hear the voice of God.

God, use me for your higher purpose.

As I remove blocks to the awareness of my divine nature, I attract events and situations that resonate with my grandeur; vibrating at a high energy, I attract miracles.

I stand in the light of who I am and become the person I am capable of becoming. From that, all good will follow.

Knowing I am part of the whole, I shift from a sense of individual identity to universal connection. My self includes everyone and I envision a world remade in the image of love.
My lessons for both teaching and learning are right here, right now.

God has greatness in mind for me; He has given me a job to do and will provide the means for me to do it.

I place myself in the service of God and demonstrate my principles in my daily life. I ask for guidance and am open to let God guide my thoughts and actions and work through me.

The Holy Spirit assigns me to the place my talents and abilities can best be put to use and where I can learn powerful lessons. When I can’t see how my part fits into the overall scheme of things, I trust that God knows.

What’s most important is not what I do so much as who I become. The purpose of my life is to be happy. Joy is natural to me.

Dear God, Please make this decision for me.
I do not see the future, But You do.
I do not know what’s best for everyone, But You do.
I cannot make sense of this, But You can.
Dear God, Please decide this for me.
Amen.

Chapter 11

I thrive on change and have it work for me. I can move slowly on the inside while things on the outside are moving fast. I take time to think and stay centered in God.

I remain grateful to God and the people who help me change.

With every new stage of life, I let go of something and grieve its loss; then I embrace what emerges next.

God's angels and guides inspire me and light my way; they are preparing my new life.

On my path to spiritual rebirth, I choose to live my life consciously. I se beyond the world and invoke new beginnings.

As I age, "my beauty steals inward." (Ralph Waldo Emerson) Life becomes more magical.

We appreciate those who have gone before us and improved our society and lives.

I no longer think small about myself and my abilities. I imagine all my weaknesses replaced by strength. I welcome the Spirit of God to come into me so that I may express the fullness of my possible self.
