| Summary and Affirmations on the
Beatitudes
Be-Attitudes - are attitudes for living to help you demonstrate more and more of God's good in your life. The Sermon on the Mount is about your mental state. If you have right thinking, you will have right action.
1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.
Poor in spirit means absence of personal pride. It means humility that always recognizes God is the only power in your life and does not recognize power in the personal ego. It means to empty yourself of all desire to exercise personal self will and to get rid of anything that stands in the way between you and God.
Thank you, God, that you are the power in me to help me learn and grow.
I am open and receptive to the inflow and the outpouring of all there is in God.
2. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Our sadness can always show us something beautiful about ourselves if we look for it. God can help us get through grief. Even though we don't like the hurt, we can learn and grow from it. Jesus says that when we accept our sorrow and the sorrow of others, with the resolve to learn, we will be filled with inner peace and comfort.
I am a part of God. God is part of me. No person, condition or thing can separate me from my happiness. Thank you, God, for making all sadness a time to learn something wonderful about myself.
I am grateful for challenges that lead me beyond my extremity to God’s opportunity.
3. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
This means having goodwill toward men and obedience toward God. It means being willing to let the will of God come about in our lives in whatever way it decides is best (rather than us deciding what is best). To be meek is to be teachable. Go with God's flow.
I am relaxed and peaceful. There is nothing in life to fear. I flow with the life of God in me and I claim my good now.
I am in tune with God – that which is God-inspired and God-directed shall prevail.
4. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
When you go after right thinking, being in tune with God with everything you've got, you will have it.
I give thanks, Father, that you now fill my every deep desire with awareness of your good for me. I keep my thinking centered in your perfect plan.
I seek with all my mind and heart, and I shall find.
5. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Forgiveness and acceptance must be sincere in your mind and heart; you don't act that way to get the same thing back. Give without expectation of getting back. Then you do get rewarded. You know you are doing this beatitude in the way Jesus intended when you feel peaceful within and do not have the desire to respond harshly to someone else. We can send positive energy and love to other people. When we do, we get some back.
Thank you, Father, that we are so centered in your love and faith, that we see it in every area of our lives.
I keep my thoughts centered upon only those things that I want to see manifest in my life.
6. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are those who live in perfect harmony with God's will. God made us pure and in his image - like a jug of pure water. But he also gave us free will and we have chosen to be unlike God in much of what we do. We cloud our own minds with negative thoughts, as a drop of food coloring can cloud that jug of water. Pure and positive thoughts must be deep down within you - in your subconscious mind - in your heart. Say positive affirmations before going to bed to change your mind at the subconscious level. Jesus said, "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he."
I am one with the clean, unclouded mind of Christ. No person, thought or condition can disturb the calm peace of my soul.
I am one with the world, not as it is, but as I am, and I am in spiritual unity with God.
7. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
This means being at peace within yourself. When you are at peace within, peace happens in your world. Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled." The way to bring about lasting peace is by prayer. When every person becomes peaceful within, there will be peace in the world. We sing in the peace song that peace begins within each of us.
I am God's child. I feel his peace within me, and I am a center for love and peace in my world.
I am a child of God and I act like one. I am a radiating center of peace and love.
8. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Righteousness means right thinking. The source of this persecution (tormenting) is yourself when you are tempted to hold wrong thoughts about some situation or some person or when you are fearful, angry or depressed. This is an opportunity for you to overcome being stuck in the world. (Picture marbles stuck in a pan of paint.)
Thank you, God, for your inspiration in me that causes me to set high goals and thank you for your love that helps me to reach them.
In my quest for truth, I press on past my humanity to a deepening awareness and an increasing releasement of my potential divinity.
