Lent:

A time for self improvement through awareness

from www.Unity.org

What, if anything, would you like to change about yourself? A bad attitude? An unhealthy relationship?

Whatever it is, recognizing your spiritual connection with God can give you the fresh start you’re looking for. You can find that sacred connection through prayer, meditation, and affirmation.

The ultimate in communication

Prayer is your direct link to God. And as you speak to God—whether through prayer, meditation, affirmation of positive thoughts, or any combination of the three—you can find peace. God is always with you … within you … around you. You are one with Infinite Wisdom. In God’s presence you’ll remain poised and centered, even during times of challenge.

Are you ready to make a commitment to your spiritual unfoldment? Are you ready to connect with God on a regular basis? Then the 40 days of Lent are the perfect opportunity to try praying, meditating, and affirming daily.

But you may be asking yourself, “Why 40 days?”

The number 40 is spiritually significant as a time of trial or testing. Moses remained on the mount for 40 days. The Israelites wandered the desert for 40 years. Jesus fasted for 40 days.

Starting on a positive note

To help you observe the 40 days of Lent as a time for soul-searching, we invite you to use the following affirmations during your times of reflection over the 40-day period: They are:

My spirit awakens to God’s call and prepares me to accomplish God’s will in my life.

I greet each day of my life with faith and know that all is well.

I trust the gentle guidance of Spirit within to reassure me and direct me in every activity of my day.

With the spirit of truth as my guide, I walk in faith, knowing that the wisdom of God lights my way.

Take these words to heart, and as you pray, meditate, and affirm this Lenten season, remember that God’s presence is with you, constantly guiding and loving you throughout your journey.

Prayers for Lent

by Charles Fillmore, from Keep a True Lent

Lent is a season of spiritual growth, a time for progressive unfoldment. When we can blend and merge our mind with God-Mind, the way is open for the Lord to glorify us and to lift us into a higher, purer, more spiritual state.

The following are affirmations for the days of lent:

In unity with Christ I realize that I am resurrected into the life, light, and power of God.

Good Friday
by Rev. Chris Chenoweth

Why do they call Good Friday “good” when it was the day that Jesus was crucified? To all appearances it was the end. To all human senses the worst of humankind seemed to be victorious…AND YET THERE WAS MORE! It was just the darkness before the dawn – The dawn of awakened humanity.

Jesus rose as he said he would. Jesus was not confined to the tomb. Jesus lives, and his teachings live, because of what happened on Easter weekend.

Many of us have Good Friday experiences in our own lives when we believe all is lost. Then we look to God, and our lives are resurrected into newness. There is new hope and new belief in tomorrow and new gladness to be alive.

Many of you are going through your own personal resurrections, today. Some of you have been fired. Some of you have gone through downsizing. Some people reading this have lost trust in someone they trusted in so much. Some have been facing divorce or the death of a loved one. Some of those reading this no longer see their children and they feel a crucifixion every time they think of their children. Some are having creditors beating down the doors of their inner peace.

Most of you have gone through your own crucifixions in the past and hopefully you have discovered the good that the Good Friday truth brings – that there is life after seeming death. We are Easter people. We are defined more by our resurrections than by our crucifixions.

I wish you a happy Good Friday in knowledge of a loving God that is everywhere present, accessible, and available to you now. No matter where you may be or what you may face.

God bless you! Happy Easter!

Prayer for Easter

by Charles Fillmore, from Keep a True Lent

Today the light of Truth is illumining my mind, and I rise up in the majesty of my divine sonship and proclaim myself to be the child of the Most High, free from all belief in sin, sickness, and death. In unity with Christ I realize that I am resurrected into the life, light,

and power of God.

Prayer for Easter

by Rev. Chris Chenoweth

Christians seek to follow Jesus Christ. But, when it comes to the crucifixion and tomb experience, we get a bit skittish. Carrying our crosses and suffering is not easy for anyone.

But I ask you to think about the words that follow. Each one of us has already followed Jesus through our own Easter experiences. Each one of us, has been crucified, placed in a tomb, and resurrected by God.

The first recorded words of Jesus Christ were the words we also need to use: "I must be about my Father's business." Luke 2:49 KJV

His last words were: "It is finished." John 19:30 KJV

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if every morning we could get up and say, "I must be about my Father's business?" And be glad that we are a part of life and living? Would it not be wonderful if we knew every day, without a doubt, that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves? Would it not be wonderful if we could follow Jesus Christ in this way? Christianity is not meant to be left on the pages of the Bible. It is meant to be experienced inside of us. Your body is the temple of the living Lord. It is the Cathedral of Christianity. It is where the Jesus Christ teachings are supposed to live and to express. Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. Its inner meaning and spiritual significance is the awakening, resurrection, and raising of the spiritual consciousness of the Christ in the lower human part of you, which has been dead in trespass and cured in a tomb of materiality. There are three themes to Easter: darkness, dawn, and day. When we are going through a dark night of the soul, it seems like we will never get through it. Everything seems so dark, and we are in despair.

But as Christians following Jesus, we know that the dawn will come. The promise of the darkness is that the dawn is just around the corner. Following the dawn is the full light of day, brightness, and illumination.

The Easter experience is one you have had. First of all, there was the betrayal of Jesus. Have you ever been betrayed? If you are alive on this earth with other humans, I guarantee that sometime, somewhere, you have been betrayed. Most of the time, we betray ourselves.

After betrayal, we are arrested. Usually, we immediately arrest ourselves, and without a trial, place ourselves in bondage. We decide we are in darkness and sickness, and that it is only going to get worse. We see that our pockets are empty, and we think that there is no hope for tomorrow. We try ourselves and we believe the trial is the end.

After the trial comes the crucifixion. We have had many crucifixions in our lives. Some of you are going through a crucifixion experience, right now, and you wonder if the pain will ever stop. But God promises that the pain will stop. What you have to do is follow Jesus Christ and go through the crucifixion. Many Christians have stayed on the cross for years, and talk about it as long as they can. They cherish their crucifixions and never get down from their crosses.

After the crucifixion, what do you do? Many people will lie in the tomb because they need to rest, for at least three days. They need time for the three phases of your body, mind, and soul to renew and rise into the newness of life. But do they leave their tomb? Many do not, choosing to stay forever in their tomb of depression and despair.

But we have to rise above the tombs in our life; we have to roll away the stone in our memory mind that imprisons us in our past. Otherwise, when "our Mary” comes to look in the tomb, we are still there. We are supposed to live again, to resurrect like Jesus did. We are to follow Jesus Christ to the ultimate resurrection. We, literally, die daily, and we are resurrected, daily.

If you feel dead because of some problem that has crucified you, or if you feel that some part of your life has died, today is the day to resurrect yourself.

It is time to believe again in the power of God and in new life. Jesus says to you that it is finished. You are equipped with new knowledge that you can do what He did and even more, because He is alive to help you.

You are an Easter person. You are a child of the third day. You are an overcomer.

What a difference a day makes!!!
